Marseille is very beautiful and Mediterranean-like. We began the day with a walk up the mountain and then up millions of steps until we reached the Notre Dame Cathedral, where we took in beautiful 360 degree views and soaked up the sun.
We then made our way down again to the Old Port Vieux where we caught a ferry over to Frioul Island and spent the afternoon exploring. There were thousands of yachts lining the docks of Marseille with many out on the water.
We’d planned to head to the island of Chateau D’if but the seas were too choppy and the boat was only going to the larger outer island of Frioul. Château d’If was the setting for Alexandre Dumas; where the main fictional character of “The Count of Monte Cristo” was imprisoned.
