Lyon

After such a hot and humid stay in Milan we were surprised to find that it was quite cold when we set out to the train station on our final day. It was windy and rainy and miserable. We dressed very light thinking it would be hot again and this was a bit of a mistake.

It seemed the only way we could get to Lyon was via Switzerland and a connecting train at Geneva. Our Eurail pass was not actually valid in Switzerland but we managed to get away with using it and no ticket masters pulled us up on it. It was a lovely scenic route on the train through Switzerland – beautiful lakes, mountains (some snow-capped) and houses. Our connecting train was delayed for an indeterminable amount of time in Geneva due to an accident somewhere on the rail. It ended up only being an extra 2 hours to wait. We still don’t know what happened in the accident.

Once we were back in France, I kept hearing myself say Italian words such as “Si” and “Gratzie” and then I’d get confused and throw a “thank you” in there for good measure – really getting it wrong! It’s always difficult to remember to change languages when you are hopping from country to country.

We managed to keep ourselves quite busy in Lyon. On our first full day we took the metro around town visiting various murals painted on buildings. I love the picture Isaac took of the first mural we saw (the feature image above) with the men looking out and the dog lying down. We spent a lovely afternoon in a huge park with a zoo, checking out all the animals. Then went over to another side of town to see more murals in the afternoon.

On our second day we walked up to a view point to have our lunch and look over the town. There were the remains of roman amphitheaters up on the hill, and also the Notre Dame and crypt below it, which we explored. That night we took a walk through town and Isaac took some nice night pictures.

Our last leg was a few nights back where we started in Paris. We didn’t do too much and took no photos this time! So this may be our last post for a while, however we may have some nice photos of Edinburgh to put up soon so stay tuned kids!
