Helsinki

Our final stop before jumping on a long list of flights back to Brisbane – Helsinki.

An unusual mix of cultures, quite Scandinavian with a dash of Russian and Eastern Europe thrown in. It was our first snowed covered city in a long time. The brisk air, the gritted streets, the romantic lights strewn throughout the city at night, it was nice. We once again donned our walking boots to discover a bit more of this wonderful place. Although as we discovered this city is a slumbering bear in winter, just waiting for the first signs of spring to jump into action. We nonetheless just lapped up the wintery snow like a husky.

We wandered through the streets looking for last souvenirs to snap up, last places to see before we finished with Finland. We walked over the frozen bay, not knowing how thick the ice was or if it would hold our weight, we just put trust in the footsteps that lead the way.

But our minds wandered and thought of home. Had the end come too soon? are we done yet? Not yet…not quite.

“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.”
– Ernest Hemingway
