After a restful day in our apartment we made our way to see the old cite of Carcassonne. Our room was so dark that we slept most of the day thinking that it was overcast and rainy outside. However, when we opened the shutters at about 8pm we were faced with a perfect sunset. We felt a bit sheepish about spending the whole day inside, but we must have needed the rest.
As we approached the city walls a dog appeared and walked a little way ahead of us, pausing every few metres to look over his shoulder and wait for us. It seemed as if he was leading us somewhere. But no, we passed him and I gave him a pat on his velvety head.
Inside the walls was the old town, including castle, cathedral and shops and houses. Very quaint and lovely. We also visited the next morning before waiting for about 8 hours in and around the train station! The next two trains to Marseille were booked solid so we had no choice but wait until 8:30 for the train and were not in Marseille until midnight.
