Bordeaux: Arrival

Well, things weren’t looking too crash hot this afternoon when we arrived in Bordeaux. After a five hour journey (including connections and waiting time) we were pretty tired and pissed off. Then we had to wait an extra hour before we could check in.

However, Bordeaux really pulled out all stops and ended up winning us over throughout the course of the afternoon. We checked in and were pleasantly surprised with a very nice studio apartment including a kitchenette. We then set out to buy some groceries for the next few days. At first we weren’t too impressed with this city, but as we set out on our walk to the supermarket, which took us through the centre of town, we were completely charmed by everything we saw. First of all it was a perfect afternoon – finally sunny again and nice and crisp. Secondly, the buildings in the centre of town are a nice mixture of antique and modern. We will have to take some photos tomorrow. Also, it seems to be a student town, so the whole vibe is youthful, bright and vibrant.

It’s quite amusing, because as we were waiting to check in earlier in the day, we were both feeling slightly negative, wondering what does it all mean? Why are we here? What’s the point? And then the day just completely turned itself around. Bordeaux does quite well for itself.

Capped the day off with a nice dinner and some very good quality beer – such a treat for us, yet only a few Euros from the local supermarket!
